Operating industrial equipment, energy meters, and PLCs over long distances requires robust signal integrity and electrical isolation to prevent ground loops and high-voltage spikes from damaging your single-board computer.
This expansion HAT uses an onboard SC16IS752 SPI-to-dual-UART controller to break out two independent RS485 channels using the Raspberry Pi’s SPI bus interface—saving your main hardware UART pins for other peripherals. Both channels feature integrated unibody power isolation and photocoupler signal isolation, guaranteeing complete electrical isolation between the Raspberry Pi and external field devices. Additionally, built-in TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes, gas discharge tubes, and self-recovery fuses protect your system against lightning surges, ESD discharges, and overcurrent conditions.
