Description

An electrolytic capacitor is a type of capacitor that uses an electrolyte (an ionic conducting liquid or gel) as one of its plates to achieve a large capacitance in a relatively small package. The other plate is typically made of aluminum foil, which is coated with an oxide layer through a process called anodization. The oxide layer acts as a dielectric, allowing the capacitor to store charge without allowing current to flow through it.
